Clifton Bay Estate is a small, 5ha vineyard located in the Te Awanga region of Hawkes Bay. The vineyard is planted in high quality clones of Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, and Chambourcin grapes.
Our premium fruit is supplied to Clearview Estate, a family-owned winery located a short distance from the vineyard. Clearview Estate is highly regarded for its award-winning Chardonnays and full bodied red wines. Several Clearview labels, including the Beachhead Chardonnay, and Enigma (a Bordeaux style blend), and are sourced from our vineyard.
Chambourcin, after which we named our Cottage, is a French varietal that is rarely grown in New Zealand. It is used exclusively in Clearview Estate's Black Reef Blush. Of the 30 wines in Clearview Estate’s portfolio, Black Reef Blush is the winery’s single biggest production wine, and one that has placed Hawke’s Bay on the New Zealand Blush/Rosé map.
